Wow! What an amazing week. We had some amazing volunteers come in and help us do our Rubber Band Helicopter project and learn more about engineering. It was so much FUN!!! We finished our lesson with a field trip to our local airport to launch our aircraft. A pilot came and gave us some information about airplanes and we even got to look inside. All of our kids were so great and the airport called us the next day to tell us we are welcome back any time we want. Our field trip ended with a visit to Kidsville for lunch and recess!!!

My latest Donors Choose project has only 17 days left and $426 left to go! If you can make a donation (no donation is too small), we would greatly appreciate your help. Share this with family and friends, too! Thanks so much!!!

I was SO super excited that they were all excited. We reviewed 5 different types of careers in engineering, what the engineers did in those jobs, and how much they made. There was such a good mix of what type they would want to be. Some wanted to be aerospace engineers to design rockets and race cars. Others wanted to be biomedical engineers to help sick people. Computer Science engineers to create their own video games. Materials engineers because they like to experiment. But my favorite was from a wee one who picked Civil engineer because he liked to build things. I asked him what would he build and his response was, "Anything I put my mind to!" That's right my little friend. That's exactly right.
Our class has the most amazing children and I'm so thankful every day I get to be with them. They are brilliant, funny, caring, and eager to learn. I'm so happy that they enjoy the lessons I teach them and the fun projects we do together. Thank you to the families of these children for sharing them with me during the school year. We had such a great Valentine's Day. It's actually one of my top 3 holidays. I love spreading love!!! We had some great volunteers come to help and the kids loved sharing their Valentine's goodies. WE FINALLY MADE IT!!! We survived more snow days than I care to count and we finally got to our 100th day of school. Boy was it so much fun. I was so excited to see everyone in their capes and do our 100 Day experiments (videos below). I'll post pictures Monday (I left my camera at school - major sad, pouty face going on right now by Mrs. Wilson). It's been a great 100 days with these amazing children. Last week we visited the topic of measuring in our room. We will continue this topic over the next week and a half to two weeks. In kindergarten we do not have to use rulers (standard measurement tools), we can use blocks, sticks or other objects (non-standard measurement tools). Students should be able to identify is something is shorter, longer, or the same in terms of length. For weight they should be able to identify if something is heavier, lighter, or the same. We will be using scales in class next week to go over weight and the kids always love this part of measurements. The class will have tons of hands-on activities, moving around the room, and collaboration with partners. After each activity, we will complete a journal activity that reviews what we just learned. There may be some days that we have an additional worksheet as well. So if you don't see many worksheets go home it is because most of that is held in our journals that will go home at the end of the year. When measuring items at home, make sure students line up one end of each of their items in order to get an accurate measurement when using non-standard or standard measuring tools. We work on this in class and it is best to have this reinforced at home as well. Below are some videos of our class in action with measuring. I will post an parent instructional video today as well for length. Can you help my classroom? Check out my Donors Choose Project below. If you contribute during the next 6 days DonorsChoose.org | We teach will MATCH your donation up to $100. The total cost is approximately $466. If you donate 10, it's actually 20. Donate 25 and it turns into 50. My goal is to have this grant complete during their offer to double the donation. Use code INSPIRE with your donation to get the matching offer! Please share with family, friends, and/or employers who would contribute to our class!!!
