Our class is such an amazing little group. They have spent this week learning all about weather and weather words. I have a lot more pictures (but left them at school) that I will post later, but it was such a fun week. This is week 1 of our 5 week weather unit. We tested temperature with thermometers, learned about air pressure (YES, 5 and 6 years olds nailed it!), talked about moisture (made snow and created rain), and learned about wind (made a pretend tornado and even used wind to move a wind powered car). Week 5 will be our first engineering project of the year. SO EXCITED! At the end of this week we made weather word books and our class did a really great job. Check them out!

Below are our remaining eight groups. Mrs. Purvis even got to help today!!! Part of our learning this week is comparing and contrasting similar stories. Last week we read "Duck for President" and this week we read "Grace for President". The class is doing AWESOME with understanding that comparing is how they are the same and contrast is how they are different. Today eight of our friends used the app "Sock Puppets" to share how Duck and Grace were the same as they were running for President. More to come tomorrow!!! P.S. The whole class was rolling in laughter at the videos. They are such an amazing group of little ones. Love them!!! As part of our four week citizenship unit our class learned about being fair and showing respect last week. The following two groups were asked to share what they learned with their families! This week we were learning about characters and setting. Each group was assigned a word we learned to share with the class. These two groups were selected to share characters and setting. I'm so proud of them! Some are working on stage fright, but no worries, by the end of the year they will be presentation pros!!! Thank you to one of our families for sharing how they are practicing their sight words by making sentences. I love how they put the numbers on each card to make sure the sentences were in the correct order!!! Below is a video showing you a few ways to use apps to assist with sight words. I will also post this video in the App Review area as well. Be sure to check the previous videos (from last year) there as well as those under the Instructional Video areas.
Our class does whole class behavior as well as individual behavior. We are starting off lower with our expectations on the infamous smiley, but it still takes a lot of practice. If our class achieves 5 smiley faces before the end of the day we are treated to a 2 MINUTE DANCE PARTY!!! Today was an AWESOME day and we met our goal. Here is a small part of our party. Celebrate with your children because they earned it today!!! |
