Today our class and school was able to see a great play about natural gas. We learned where it comes from, how to be safe around it and much more. Just ask your child about this great exper

Today we had our pumpkin investigations. We had 4 centers set up to research our pumpkins. We had one station set up that we were able to feel the outside and INSIDE of a pumpkin. Next we had a pumpkin measurement center that we figured out how tall our pumpkin was and how much it weighed. Then we had a sink or float experiment area. To finish we drew a picture of our pumpkin and determined its size. Thanks to Mrs. Weiss for assisting us during our centers. She was an AWESOME help to our class project!!! This week we had some exciting changes in our math lessons. We began to do math centers. With our math centers I spend around 15-20 minutes with a mini-lesson (we generally cover the same topic all week) then we break out into a center. Centers range from computers where we do IXL (you should have received your family letter in your child's BEAR Binder), independent practice in our math journals, a partner activity, and a group activity where they play a math game with Mrs. Sampson. I then pull a small group of students to give a more in-depth and challenging lesson so I can provide more direct attention to our students. On Friday's I will finish up anyone who I didn't meet with during the week and provide more support to those who need it. We have some wonderful pictures to share with you as well. Our class had so much fun (minus the yellow jackets) at Mike's Farm. We saw a magic show, saw some animals, went on a hayride, picked our own pumpkins from the pumpkin patch and watched how apple cider was made (with a sweet sample, too). Tons of fun and we have pictures to share below. Thankful for the volunteers who were able to come but sad one of our friends was sick the day of our trip. Our class is fortunate in regards that we have families that have lived in areas all around the world. One in particular is Sophia's dad and he was kind enough to come and speak with our class about England. He shared books, maps, stickers and talked about the currency in England (pounds and pence). The children were also given some of the currency as a gift to take home! Check out some of our pictures from this special event. Not to mention it was our Pajama Day!!! We are using our math time to learn all about numbers, but also to build our muscles. Our class is doing some great exercises while counting by 5's and 10's to strengthen our muscles and tighten our core. In addition to these great exercises we do daily, we are also building our hand strength. Today we used these great tweezers (see below) to get our math manipulatives for our lesson today. See how we are getting stronger by doing math! Our school was so lucky that our local fire department came and shared some great fire safety tips with us today. We had a puppet show, got to ask questions, and were able to explore a fire truck up close. Thank you to our local fire fighters for all they do for us each and every day. |
