Our class is so super sweet and I thought I'd let all of our families know how special our class has made me feel for my birthday. Extra surprise was that one of our friends shares this birthday with me. Mrs. Amell had the whole class make cards which were super sweet! Thank you to all of my families for sharing your children with me this year and allowing me to be their teacher!
Today we had a student from one of our early colleges come to our class and teach us about using the sun's resources in different ways. He showed us a great video with Bill Nye and then led us out to our new pavilion for four centers. We made awesome pinwheels, created shadow puppets while testing ice melting in different containers, used a "solar oven" to make s'mores, and looked at solar panels (one even powered a toy car!). The kids had so much fun and are begging for another S'mores Day. So be on the lookout at the end of the year for a special s'mores day!!! Below are some pictures of our day. Friday was a big day in our room. Our class filled out their very first job applications and went on their first interviews. They learned that we don't always get the job we apply for but they would be selected for their best fit job. It was tons of fun and everyone was happy getting their jobs!!! Below is a slideshow of images from our day and a video we made showcasing their applications and interviews. Today we were learning about words with multiple meanings. We were reading the book "Those Shoes" this week and one of the words in the book was "check". We discussed that the word could mean to look at something or it could be something that gives you money. Below is our anchor chart/learning tool to share our learning and to understand what we should know after Mrs. Wilson teaches the lesson. Our class also made videos about words on their own. (A few are super cute!!!) Today was an exciting day in our room. I shared a new app called "Chromeville" with the class. We chose our story, colored the setting, and watched our work come to life. This app is accessible on Apple and Android devices. You print the image of your choice from your personal computer and printer and let their imagination take off. It was so much fun. Afterwards they wrote stories about their image. Tons of fun. Below are pictures and a video of our experience. This week we have been studying how many more you need to make 10 if you are given a number 1 - 9. We used a couple of apps in centers, but this one was a hit. It is called Number Frames. Students actually created the WHOLE thing on their own. Created the 10 Frame, moved the counters, and typed out the equations. What a bunch of smart cookies!!! Here are a few pics of our awesome mathematician's work. So a few weeks ago we posted pictures of Ms. P's preschool class pet, Lucy, and her new babies. Well our class (aka ME) adopted two of her little ones today. Meet Milo and Otis (at least we hope it's Milo and Otis). The kids were super excited about our new friends!!! Milo is the one waving.
