While we were on our field trip to the Pumpkin Patch I bought a class pumpkin. I told the children that we would perform a science experiment on the pumpkin the Friday before Halloween, but I didn't tell them what it was. I also did not allow them to guess. You could just see the wheels turning through their eyes and giggles. Well when the day finally came they were more than excited. I took them outside and we discussed the life cycle of the pumpkin again and I allowed them all to feel the outside of our pumpkin. As they were lining up to go back inside I told them to stop and told them there was one more thing we needed to do since we were all scientists. "A good scientist would investigate all parts of the pumpkin. Not just their life cycle and the outside. We need to discover the INSIDE of the pumpkin." They were HILARIOUS. And yes, even I investigated the inside of the pumpkin and I think this grossed them out even more.

I wanted a fun way for our whole class to get sight word practice. The name of the game is Sight Word King and Queen. Everyone wears a crown and we have to say the word on each friends crown at our table. The first day we just worked on saying the words. Now we say and write the words. We are allowed to ask for help if we are not sure about the word. Here are some pictures from a few days of this game. Our first day with our collaborative Adventure Time project was great. We learned about the changes fall brings, taught our fourth grade friends about the life cycle of a pumpkin, and our fourth grade friends taught us about habitat changes for animals. Afterwards we collected leaves and examined how they are changing. The next time we meet we will work on some questions about our adventure and enter our answers as a journal entry in our online journal. We were the first (I believe) class to get 25 fish for our great behavior around the room. Remember, teachers are not allowed to give their own class fish, so these fish were given to us by others around the school. Our next goal is 50 fish. Check out some of our pictures from our September 28th Pajama Party.
On September 26 we had a Shaving Cream Number Writing Practice in our class. We each had a squirt of shaving cream on their table that we turned into a writing board. Look at our pictures below.
