Today in class we were learning about Hidden Partners in math class. Basically this shows students various ways to make a certain number. Today one of the numbers we worked on was the number 5. Within the number 5 are other numbers. One example is within the number 5 there are "Hidden Partners" 3 and 2. 3 and 2 equals 5. The class really enjoyed this lesson and they were super excited to explore ways to make numbers by investigating their "Hidden Partners." Below is some of their work.

After hearing so much concern about CORE Mathematics, I had to do a little investigation of my own. I feel that your simple explanation dispels much of the concern parents have. I can't say that all of the CORE is a better method, but this example makes sense. I think it will lead to students being better equipped to understand factoring and using critical thinking skills that are desperately needed to be successful in life.
