We have spent the past couple of weeks learning all about subtraction and addition. Even though kindergarteners are not required to write equations, I try to encourage this in our room. They have done so amazing with addition and subtraction that our students have been doing some of the teaching. We came up with number story problems as a group. One student at a time would go to the SMART Board and solve the problem on the board. They were using drawings to solve their problem, explaining to the class why they solved it this way, and practiced writing out the equation. What was so AWESOME to me is that I didn't even ask them to write out the equation. Our first friend up wrote his out and then everyone else followed his lead. Such a great class of little mathematicians!!! Love them bunches. Below are a few pictures from their "I'm the Teacher" session. Did I already say I love them????
